As a result of natural aging process and affect of gravity, the most common change that occurs on the skin is sagginess and lines and wrinkles. Fortunately, now many cosmetic procedures that combat aging affects and make you youthful are available. Browlift surgery – also known as forehead lift – is also one of them. Brow lift surgery aims at eradicating the lines on the forehead and improving the appearance of sagging forehead and eyebrows.
Browlift is no doubt really effective procedure but like any other surgical procedure, it also carries some side effects and complications. These side effects may vary from patient to patient depending on the condition of patient and technique used. Though by selecting an experienced plastic surgeon and following pre –surgical and post-surgical instructions, you can minimize side effects and prevent complications, you must know about all the potential risks. Here we will discuss possible risks that can occur before and after surgery.

During the surgery
During the surgery, there is minimal risk of any complications if the patient is healthy and good candidate for procedure. The only possible cause of any possible complication during the procedure is usually the in expertise of plastic surgeon. Excess bleeding may occur during the procedure but an experienced plastic surgeon can control it. Other complications include reaction to the medications. Patient may have an allergic reaction to anesthesia and pain relievers given during surgery. This risk can be eliminated by screening patient for potential reactions before surgery.
After the procedure
Mostly patients experience the complications after browlift surgery, during the recovery period. Possible complications include:
·         One common complication that may occur after browlift surgery is infection. Though surgeon makes full efforts to make incisions that are small easy to heal, few patients may experience infection on the incision site. This occurs because of improper post-surgical care. Patient must be careful about cleaning incisions and using medications to prevent infection.
·         Another complication that patients experience after surgery is scarring. Usually scars fade after some period of time if patient takes proper care of incisions. Incisions are made in conspicuous sites and are smaller that makes scarring unnoticeable. On the other hand, if patient develops scars, treatments are also available.
·         The biggest and very rare complication associated with browlift surgery injury to facial nerve. This may result in muscle weakness and injury to sensory nerves in the forehead causing scalp or forehead numbness. This complication is extremely rare and the only way to eliminate it is selecting an experienced plastic surgeon.

In short, browlift surgery carries some complications and risks but they can be avoided.
